If you’ve followed our short journey so far, you know that originally, I wanted to call this place “GeekDaddies.” It was a brilliant, amazing name…so amazing, that Wired Magazine’s editor in chief Chris Anderson had created a blog for his own amusement back in 2007 called Geek Dad. Eventually, that blog became a part of Wired Magazine and, under the editorial shepherding of Ken Denmead, gets over 1.6 million hits per month.
I contacted Ken and the folks at Wired early on, knowing that my name choice, though available as a URL, was a little close, and we all agreed that Justin’s alternative name of “Geek Papas” was a much smarter move. Ken and Wired have been amazingly open and welcoming to us, always seeking new voices in the world of Geek Parenting. Ken came on the show to talk to Justin and I about being a good Geek Dad, what that means, and to talk about his two New York Times Bestselling books, “Geek Dad; Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share,” and “The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun.” not to mention his soon to be released 3rd book, “The Geek Dad Book for Aspiring Mad Scientists.” (The man is busy.) I can’t thank Ken enough for our great chat, and we end up with he and Justin bonding as intense “Star Trek” geeks.
Also, Jonathan Lemon of the great comic “Rabbits Against Magic” gives us the second installment of his ongoing series, “A Twist of Lemon,” as he takes us through a hilarious journey of the weeks leading up to and including the birth of his son!
